TAILS REPORT FOR SIRES AND DAMS
This Tails Report indicates the breeding lines of foundational and generational horses for both males and females. Our report goes back to the oldest known and recorded Bacas. The significance of having such a report allows for making the best decisions to continue the preservation of the heritage line. Please link here to download our Bacas Tails Report.
Our Breeding Program and Research
Due to the rare heritage and current preservation status, three Universities are providing guidance through DNA sampling and genetic analysis for the Blue Oaks Center’s breeding program.

Analysis and comparative studies” Dr. Gus Cothran, PhD.
The results of this research done by Dr. Gus Cothran, PhD., DVM, VIBS, at Texas A&M University is critical in helping Blue Oaks Center determine how we can continue the preservation of this Strain (the Baca Spanish Barb) without inbreeding. All breeding is done to maintain the characteristics for which the Bacas are known: conformation, sweet temperament, intelligence, agility and endurance.
The following Scatter Plot Graph shows the results of DNA Analysis and Comparative Studies done with North African Barbs (blue) and the Baca Spanish Barb (yellow) to head off possible negative inbreeding effects in the long term.
Through data analysis, Blue Oaks Center has strived to breed pure bred Baca lines to sustain the original Baca Herd. In addition, an “up breeding” Program” has been established to assure Baca Genetics are never lost. The Up Breeding preservation program selects breeding from the DNA Analysis Data of very closely aligned horses to
the Baca Herd.
With the use of the Data Analysis, Blue Oaks Center has successfully bred a strong full 100% Baca Herd and has amazing success with the Up Breed Preservation Program.
